Yin Yoga is a passive and challenging yoga practice. Poses–all seated or reclined–are held for 3-5 minutes, stretching deep muscle tissue and fascia. Due to its slow nature, this class is often described as a “moving meditation”.
Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other types of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (which we are calling the yang tissues). Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.
Great for cyclists, runners, or anyone with tight muscles or in need of help reducing stress or anxiety, Yin is a brilliant compliment to your regular practice. Suitable for all levels.
